Listening to Howlin’ Rain’s latest, “Magnificent Fiend,” you might feel as if you’ve somehow been dropped into the year 1976. The album’s warm, wide-open grooves and country harmonies bring to mind Steve Miller, the Allman Brothers, and the Grateful Dead, drawing just enough from the band’s influences to seem both fresh and familiar.
