The music industry has been bemoaning its fate, as the costs of promoting artists and their songs soar while sales slump. It seems that it’s facing a slow, self-inflicted implosion. It blames its demise on the Internet and the easy access that fans have to music that has yet to be released for public consumption. Independent record labels, on the other hand, are reveling in the public attention that the Internet brings to their artists. According

You know that loading DVD to iPod is possible. Everyone is talking about it, and apparently everyone is doing it. Everyone but you, that is.
It’s not because you don’t want to. Truth be told, the thought of loading DVD to iPod occurs to you several times a day.
In fact, you think about it everyday as you sit in the break room at lunch, wishing you that you were watching an episode of one of your favorite shows that you missed last week because you had to work late every night.

If you’ve ever listened to blues music and jazz piano, then you must have noticed the similarities that both genres share with black gospel piano lessons. Quite often, the most significant difference between gospel piano and blues or jazz is the tempo, pitch or chords! We don’t mean to suggest that these genres are exactly alike however. We mean to instead, underscore that the philosophies or motivations behind these styles are alike and they contribute to their resemblances.

The spirits of music directors present and past are intermingling this week, as the Boston Symphony Orchestra gives the first American performances of Henri Dutilleux’s “Le Temps L’Horloge” for soprano and orchestra. There are not a lot of contemporary composers for whom one can imagine both James Levine and Seiji Ozawa sharing a true affinity, but Dutilleux, a 91-year-old French master who writes music at once intensely abstract and sensual, is one of them.

When the baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky arrives at Symphony Hall on Tuesday, he’ll bring a program whose two halves represent two sides of his artistic personality and of his Russian roots. First on the bill is a set of Russian opera arias, which have been a calling card for him throughout his career. After intermission comes a selection of what he calls “romances,” popular songs that flourished around the turn of the 20th century. Though largely unknown to Western audiences, they are deeply ingrained in the singer’s soul.

Christopher Guest has a plan to cover himself when he forgets the lyrics to his own songs at this evening’s Berklee College of Music concert - and Guest is quite certain that he will be forgetting lyrics.
“It’s rather pathetic,” he confesses. “I have to go on the Internet to get the words that I wrote - that we all wrote. Of course, some of the lyrics on the Internet are wrong because the person heard them incorrectly. Hopefully I can just turn to some kid onstage at Berklee and say ‘Why don’t you sing?’ Problem solved.”

It’s an old story: guy’s life falls apart, he holes up in a remote cabin to mend his broken soul, and returns to civilization three months later with a fine new album for his troubles. Maybe not everyone ends up making an album. But Justin Vernon - who also emerged from the woods with a new name, Bon Iver - stumbled into just the right combination of bad times, good karma, and genuine talent to come up with “For Emma, Forever Ago,” recorded last winter at his parents’ hunting cottage in northwestern Wisconsin.
