The intimate club tour before the flashy arena show has become de rigueur for artists these days with everyone from Justin Timberlake to My Chemical Romance taking it down a notch to introduce a new album to diehard fans.

There are very few summer concerts one can go to and find the lead guitarist raunchily riffing on Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs .
But then there are very few, if any, bands like Steely Dan .

Having played around with various guitars over the last 30 odd years it had always been a secret wish of mine to build one. However, the step from dream to the reality was for me, at least, a very long one coming.
I had on several occasions brought myself to the brink of the momentous event and then studied the smooth perfect forms of each of the guitars that I owned, heaved a deep sigh of regret, and once again slid back from the task.

There are 2 ways to create an original melody. The first has to do with improvisation. Here you simply “come up” with material and either transfer it directly to sheet music or record it so it can be remembered later on.
The second way and the one I’m going to show you how to do is actually composing a melody from scratch. Some think this method (as opposed to free improvisation) is more difficult. Not if you use rhythmic patterns!

So you hear much about producing music with computers but haven’t really taken a plunge yourself? You are an avid musician but scared you will NOT be able to produce the same quality if you move to computers. Maybe you don’t know much about computers and can’t decide which “DAW” to choose.
